SIMS Error

Hi all

 

Im new at this so please be gentle!

 

One of my admin collegaues has an error when she tries to export a report into word, it says:

"Error: Length cannot be less than zero

Parameter Name: length"

 

We have spoken to our internal IT helpdesk who say it is an office issue? Can anyone shed any light on this?

When you say export a report into word do you mean that Word document is the output type of a SIMS.net report?

 

Is this the first time this happened on this machine?

 

Can the same user produce the required report on another PC.

 

Can she produce an Excel report?

 

 

Have you checked macro security normally Word mail merge from SIMS.net will not work if the setting is high. You need to have it at medium so you can selectively enable/disable macros.

Office and SIMS can be funny partners in crime - as well as the suggestions pointed out above, it may also be worth checking the permissions on the TEMP folders and the OFFICE folder on the actual machine; SIMS.net does require you to have write permissions to these

(have a word with your helpdesk!)

 

Is there any possibility you can export the report and post it here - rest assured none of your school data will come across, only the report template - doing this may help "us" see where the fault may lie

Yes it is.

Yes she Can - but logged itno Simms under another user.

Yeah, it goes into excel a dream.

Hmm...not chekced this one. Will have a peak at it shortly.

The user is a local administrator so sohuld have read/write access to all the PC but i will double check.

 

I dont know how to export the template as Sims doesnt allow us to get that far!

I am surprised your local helpdesk did not assist you further with this issue. The general advice for this error is to use the detect & repair feature of office:

 

Go to Add/Remove programs and click on Microsoft Office

 

Click on the 'Click here for support information' link and then click 'Repair'

This will repair this Office install.

 

(You may be required to insert the Microsoft Office installation cd to carry out this operation)
