Strange problem with one PC - Black screen

Recommended Posts

Posted

Imaged an entire suite of the same spec PCs, same monitors etc.

One PC images fine, and shuts down after imaging (Normal). I then power it back up, gets past the BIOS and shows the Windows animation fine then the screen just goes black and nothing happens!

Safe mode works fine too.

Any ideas what is going on as I'm baffled! Tried imaging and formatting several times too...

I've seen this problem before in a room where one monitor had failed, and been replaced by a slightly different model (supported resolution was lower and no-one had noticed)!

If you swap the monitor (or this PC with the one next to it) does the same happen?

I'll second that motion, sounds like an iffy monitor to me. It sounds like it fails at the point it launches the explorer graphical environment so the resolution/refresh settings might no be supported on that screen (especially as it works in safe mode!)

As above really, Nearly eveytime i have experienced this issue it is due to the screen resolution being set too high for the monitor to cope with and it will just turn off or show a black screen.
