Microsoft 60-646 - anybody selling their books?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

just about to start studying 60-640 and 60-642 with the OU, figured I might as well study 60-646 and get the MCITP out of it but I'm having trouble sourcing the books.

Does anybody have spare copies they'd be willing to sell, or know of anywhere I can buy them?

Thanks,

Also, I've noticed that the same 3 exams can get me an MCSA or an MCITP, but I can't for the life of me figure out what the difference is. If they both require the same exams to qualify, why would you choose one over the other?

You would get both qualifications if they are still offering them. The MCSA is the new rebranded MCSA which is basically the same as the old MCITP server administrator. Make sure you get the second edition of the books with the added R2 content.

i wouldnt mind getting the mscitp:sa but from the above link it shows its expiring next july for the 2008.

where would i find info about the 2008r2 exams?

Any reason you won't be going for MCSA 2008? It's same as old one, just "renamed" and "not" expiring:

This certification will no longer be available to earn as of July 31, 2013. Candidates who pass Exams 70-640, 70-642, and 70-646 will continue to earn the MCSA: Windows Server 2008 certification after the MCITP: Server Administrator on Windows Server 2008 certification is no longer available.

I have the following set of MCITP books that I am planning to sell (in near mint condition)...

www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0735625727

These cover exams 70-640, 70-642, 70-643 and 70-647. Although they are the first editions, it is possible to trade them in for £54 on Amazon which you can then use to purchase the second editions. The books weigh 4.735 Kilograms in total, so the P&P might be too expensive to make it worth the hassle?

The R2 exams are just additions to the 2008 exams therefore they are the same thing.

So Im confused about the expiry thing then.. Are they just simply renaming it from MS:CITP:SA to MCSA?

Thanks for the offer, but I already have 640 & 642 and only want 646 additionally for now.

The books I have are the "lab manual" type, and I have managed to find these on sale for 70-646 but in fellow geeks opinion's, are these the best to get or are there particular ones you'd recommend? Seems like there are about 3 different publishers making these books, not sure which to buy...

I'm thinking of obtaining some MS quals too but i'd like the MCITP SA but the deadlines Jul 2013 so I don't know if ill cut it in time. What i got in mind is

Exam 70-680: TS: Windows 7, Configuring

Exam 70-685:Pro: Windows 7, Enterprise Desktop Support Technician

Exam 70-640:Windows Server 2008 Active Directory, Configuring

Exam 70-642:Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure, Configuring

Exam 70-646:Windows Server 2008, Server Administrator

Also worth mentioning Trainsignal or CBTnuggets are good tutorials

my problem with 70-686 is the ms book and cbt files dont cover things on the exam powershell/appv/medv are on exam but not in training material so £100 down the drain in my case
