Windows 7 and Ghost

Hi All,

 

I'm just putting the finishing touches to our Windows 7 image. Once it's sysprepped, I plan to take an image using Ghost.

 

It just occurred to me that Windows 7 has the System Reserved partition. Am I correct in thinking I will need to take ghost images of both partitions, and restore both partitions when I am pushing images out?

 

I'm almost ready for this stage but thought I'd see if anyone had any advice based on their experiences before I suck-it-and-see!

Yes you will need both partitions. I think with Ghost you need to take "Whole disk Image" or something similar which takes a copy of the HDD as is rather then just the partition

 

But I may be wrong as havn't used ghost for about 4 years

Yes, we need to move on from Ghost really but it will be fine for now!

Yes you need both. you could move onto WDS of FOG.... Clonezilla is a good free ghost we use that for everything we don't manage through FOG

Ghost works great with Windows 7; I still use it sometimes when having to multicast images to large groups of netbooks. Just be sure to chose Local > Disk > To Image. This will grab the entire disk and make sure you're using at least version 11. Anything under that version will not work correctly with Vista/7.

Disk to image is the way forward, as for ghost version, I still use ghost 8 and it works fine with win 7, just occasionally I have to run a windows repair afterwards. As for sysprepping, not really necessary anymore, sids aren't an issue like they used to be with xp.....
