Hey,

I have been looking into Google Apps to deploy to several schools and I have come across the thought that if deploying it to a high school what is to say that the kids wont use Google docs collaboration to sit in several rooms, different parts of the class having a conversation in word using either the comments or the collaboration tools.

Does anyone know of a solution they have implemented to enforce and restrict users from having this ability if in a OU of Students?

Regards

Classroom management?

Classroom management?

Fair enough but From my experience of being in a classroom environment depending upon the layout it is hard to determine what kids are doing at once, has anyone found a real restriction within Google apps to temporarily disable collaboration in class hours unless given explicit permissions?

Have you seen lan school or italc? They will let you see what is one the screen of each student and act accordingly.

Disabling the collaboration features would remove a potentially very useful feature

Yes, you can implement such software to monitor the screens so a teacher can view what the students get up to but the ability to temporarily disable collaboration during a certain time frame would be one of which could be of some use to prevent such an occurance.

I don't believe any such disabling of collaboration would be possible. After all, collaboration is one of the fundamental features of google apps, and one of the main reasons for deploying google apps at all.
