Windows 8 XP Mode VM Borked

I don't know what has happened here, but the XP VM I use in Windows 8's 'XP Mode' has become a little stuffed. Short of re-installing it (a complete uninstall and re-install apparently as you have to download it again from Microsoft and set it up from scratch) which I don't want to do, I'm wondering whether anyone else has experienced this.

It happened after I swapped around a graphic card (I have 2 in my PC and changed the position over) and it would only boot -taking an age to do so - into 800x600 with no option to adjust the resolution. I can however drag out the window to resize which it does fine. Device manager is showing that a 'Virtual PC Integration Device' has issues yet reports it as working correctly even though it can't tell you what it is or who wrote the driver (see attached image). I don't want to use System Restore as it had some modifications that may be lost which I need, oh, and it was not these changes that caused the problem BTW. So, if anyone knows how to either re-install integration features, or a work around it would be much appreciated.

Hmmm. I inadvertently did a system restore and it worked! I had the VM SR dialogue box opened when typing this and pressed return thinking I was still in my main desktop browser

Now I have to check my changes are still in place :/

Is this still based around VPC or is it based on Hyper-V now? Either way have you got hold of the appropriate additions iso and tried re-installing it? Sounds like your drivers are borked which a reinstall of the additions iso should fix?

Virtual PC isn't supported on Windows 8. You need to use Client Hyper-V which is included with Windows 8 Pro & Enterprise.
