I have a linux server doing Cron backups using Rsync on my network. I recently changed the IP of my mail server and now I am not getting the logs e-mailed through. I have checked etc\mailer.conf and changed it in there, but still no joy. Any other suggestions on where to look/change?

Ok. I just checked postfix and there was a value in there for my old e-mail server address. But not under relayhost. under #fallback_transport = smtp:

So I have changed that. Also, noticed that relayhost was blank. So added it there. Should that do it you think?

No. I'm afraid not. No mails through from my jobs overnight.

Is there no way I can tell by command or otherwise to see what program the person who set it up used to configure the log mailouts?

Or is there anything else you can suggest checking?

Not sure if this helps, but looking at the previous logs from when it was working the mails say they are from Cron Daemon. Although that could just be the name of the email account.

When I type that in I get the following output.

As you can possibly tell from this, but not sure if it is relevant. But he backup machine doing the Cron jobs is a virtual machine.

Sent myself a test mail. That came through.

But I did change something else before I tried which may have made it start working. In the postfix directory there were a number of other files that made reference to that old server. I changed them.

So, do you think that will work now as the test mail came through?

That all worked fine. Thanks for all your help everyone. :)

On a side note I found this morning that my 2 Radius servers and 1 file server didn't send logs, but that is because my predecessor was running qmail on one and exim on another and so had to adjust those ones accordingly.
