Incorrect Function

Hi all

 

A personal question! Looking at a laptop for a friend whos wireless has suddenly stopped working and it appears the driver has been uninstalled (wouldn't suprise me if they broke it!). When trying to reinstall it/point to the driver files it fails the install and says "incorrect function" even though it is the right driver! Tried everything I can think of!

 

Any ideas? Windows 7...

1. Windows 7 32 bit or 64 bit ?

2. Make and model of wireless card ?

3. Which driver are you getting and where are you getting it from ?

4. If you completely remove the driver in safe mode with networking and if you go to downloadcenter.intel.com ( if it is an intel wireless card ) you can use there driver scanning tool

 

Can't upload screen grabs but there is a 'Run Intel Driver update utility' button at the top left and on the 2nd screen there is a 'check your system for latest updates' button in the middle of the screen.

 

You will have to allow and install the plug ins / add ons during the process of the scanner tool installation / detection process. Also am not sure if it will work correctly in safe mode so you may have to reboot and re try step 4 whilst normally logged on as an admin user ( domain or local )

What model of laptop or PC is this ? Just want to download the driver myself and look at a few things

Just to confirm are you making sure the drop down menu has the relevant OS selected ( windows 7 32 bit ) as per below

 

The dell website is known for selecting Vista or at least the wrong OS as default ( from the drop down menu at the top ) make sure you select windows 7 32 bit and go back to the network section, then click on the relevant item.

Obviously before downloading, click on the description field to ensure it is for 32 and 64 bit versions of windows 7

Looks like it is based on the BCM43xx series ( people seem to be able to use the BCM 4312 drivers ) so Broadcom 4312 drivers if the dell ones are failing

 

Wrong manufacturer but seems to be the BCM 4312 and BCM 4313

OR the one from gateway ( appears to be an older version ), looking via google I can't seem to find a valid download from broadcom for the 4312 series of WLAN drivers

Failing that you could contact Broadcom support to get the BCM 4312 drivers ( wireless card drivers for the broadcom 4312 series of wireless cards )
