cpjitservices Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 Does anyone know how through script or GPO I Can set the screensaver up on all PCs to display photos from a network location ? Thanks in Advance!
Steve21 Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 If it hasn't changed it should be under: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Photo Viewer\Slideshow\Screensaver Which should be an ecrypted path (think it's base 64) but you should be able to copy/paste deploy that regkey, but would need to test it incase it's changed Steve

I looked into this a while back. 2
FN-GM Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 If you do find a way tell me. I was going to use it to create a school screensaver on the cheap.
cpjitservices Posted July 26, 2012 Author Posted July 26, 2012 We had a similar thing at the college I worked at.... The pics where showing events coming up and stuff and to visit the moodle site BUT...... that was on XP not 7. 7 Doesn't seem to want to do it.
Scottyboy99 Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 This software is very good: Screensaver Wonder - Make a screensaver using screensaver software Just add the folder of photos to the wizard and it will create a .scr file for you.
FN-GM Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 @cpjitservices what did you do in the end please? thanks
AJWhite1970 Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 You can use the old ssmypics.scr from Windows XP and it works fine in Windows 7. We use two screen savers, one for not logged in (runs from c:) and a logged in screen saver (runs from the server). These are the keys I used in the build, pick out the keys of interest to customise it for your own preferences. Hope it helps someone Andrew Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop] "ScreenSaveTimeOut"="60" "ScreenSaveActive"="1" "SCRNSAVE.EXE"="C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\ssmypics.scr" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop] "PowerOffActive"="0" "PowerOffTimeOut"="0" "ScreenSaverIsSecure"="0" "ScreenSaveTimeOut"="300" "ScreenSaveActive"="1" "SCRNSAVE.EXE"="C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\ssmypics.scr" [HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Screen Saver.Slideshow] "ImageDirectory"="C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\config\\systemprofile\\My Documents\\My Pictures" "PaintInterval"=dword:00000000 "ChangeInterval"=dword:00001770 "DisplayFilename"=dword:00000000 "MaxScreenPercent"=dword:00000064 "DisableTransitions"=dword:00000001 "AllowStretching"=dword:00000000 "AllowKeyboardControl"=dword:00000000 "MaxFailedFiles"=dword:000003e8 "MaxSuccessfulFiles"=dword:00010000 "MaxDirectories"=dword:000000c8 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Screen Saver.Slideshow] "ImageDirectory"="\\\\SERVERNAME\\profiles\\ScreenSaver" "PaintInterval"=dword:00000000 "ChangeInterval"=dword:00001770 "DisplayFilename"=dword:00000000 "MaxScreenPercent"=dword:00000064 "DisableTransitions"=dword:00000001 "AllowStretching"=dword:00000000 "AllowKeyboardControl"=dword:00000000 "MaxFailedFiles"=dword:000003e8 "MaxSuccessfulFiles"=dword:00010000 "MaxDirectories"=dword:000000c8 [HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-19\Control Panel\Screen Saver.Slideshow] "ImageDirectory"="c:\\\\windows\\\\system32\\\\config\\\\systemprofile\\\\my documents\\\\my pictures" "PaintInterval"=dword:00000000 "ChangeInterval"=dword:00001770 "DisplayFilename"=dword:00000000 "MaxScreenPercent"=dword:00000064 "DisableTransitions"=dword:00000001 "AllowStretching"=dword:00000000 "AllowKeyboardControl"=dword:00000000 "MaxFailedFiles"=dword:000003e8 "MaxSuccessfulFiles"=dword:00010000 "MaxDirectories"=dword:000000c8
zbjsy Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 i can get PHOTOSCREENSAVER.SCR to work at prelogon, and the network share is correct, but it says no photos in \\server\share$ same settings work fine when they are logged in the folder share has everyone read access - any ideas?
zbjsy Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 found the solution over here: Using MyPics Screen Saver on Windows 7 Login - Spiceworks 1. I added ANONYMOUS LOGON to the permissions of the file share and NTFS folder. Note: You need to specify ANONYMOUS LOGON because it is not included in the "Everyone" group ( article here Everyone group does not include anonymous security identifier) and that is what the Local Service uses . The permissions that I have on the shares and files are read only for Domain Users, ANONYMOUS LOGON. 2. You need to update to update the Local GPO on the file server. Run gpedit.msc, go to Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options\ and specify the share name where the pictures are stored under the "Network Access: Shares that can be access anonymously" policy. Hope that helps. can confirm it works 1

zbjsy Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 no that should be it, did you manually add anon ?
FN-GM Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Personally, i would use irfanview to create your own. Its free, easy and lots less hassle! 1
zbjsy Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 tbh, if you follow the guidelines, it not that much hassle at all. does irfanview do vidoes ?
