Day 6 (I had Day 5 off) in the Pi shop..

..was a washout.

 

I decided it was time to have a play with using it as a media player and my USB-SD adaptor stopped working so I couldn't download any images and I'd left my netbook at a school - so its off to the poundshop for me at lunchtime!

 

But hey -its friday and I've got all weekend

I'm hoping my Case will arrive in the next couple of days. I'm also going to try and setup some stuff using the GPIO for my nephew to play with. can anybody thing of something interesting to do for a 10 year old bar turning on a light which is fairly easy/cheap to source components for?

I'm waiting till we can get Scratch to control the GPIO before attempting to do show it off to 10 year olds

 

I know I could teach them Python but I don't think that'll grab em

@plexer - yep -seen that - I'm trying to get their modified Scratch from them.

 

(I'd buy a development board but I've been banned from buying anything else RaspberryPi related this month by the boss! )

 

There are a few posts around about people using Python as an interface between Scratch and the GPIO but no-ones put together and idiots guide to it and what I'm really after is Scratch talking direct to the GPIO

Clearly the way to go!!

 

I think the best way of getting them interested at the moment is the punnet, until the GPIO is easily accessible through a proper API rather than direct IO calls it will be a bit difficult for the students to learn!
