Quick autodiscover qu

Just setting up a couple of Android devices for email sync and notice they never get the Exchange server address right, I'm guessing this is down to autodiscover (or lack of)

 

Our external DNS is hosted by our ISP and I don't think we have a record set up there, am I right in thinking I just need the SRV record added as per the link below and point it to the external domain of our Exchange server?

 

A new feature is available that enables Outlook 2007 to use DNS Service Location (SRV) records to locate the Exchange Autodiscover service

 

Also seen articles that mention an A record instead set as exchangeserver.domain.com > external IP of Exchange server instead of the SRV record

Yes, you need to have an SSL cert that covers autodiscover.whatever.org.uk otherwise soe implementations get antsy. If you have a SAN cert this probably alredy has it. Edited July 10, 2012 by SYNACK

Yup I'm pretty sure I put that on there when I did it. Did you use an A record, SRV record or both?

As long as your cert covers it I'd just setup the autodiscover subdomain pointed at your webmail IP it is the most supported, if the autodiscover subdomain exists you don't need the svr records.

you want a cname record of autodiscover.company.com which points to whatever the external address for activesync is. (its normally the same as the external OWA address). The time you would need srv records is if you had multiple domains so would need multiple autodiscover records, dont think you have multiple domains.

A record is the preferred method, use ExchRCA to test.
