Power surges

Please can someone help. We are having loads of over voltage over night and its blowing out equipment. We have put UPS on servers and switches but we are still loosing equipment.

 

A surge arrester has been placed on the main feed into school but that did not stop the problem. The electricians have been in and are having problems finding the cause. The worst time is in the middle of the night and in winter.

 

Has anyone else had this problem and how have you fixed it?

Did you have a surge last night? I'm only down the road and I lost a switch about 5am?

We had this at my last school, a rural primary. The cause of the surges turned out to be a nearby farm. It took well over a year for the problem to be identified unfortunately It was something to do with their equipment shutting off overnight.

We had it Friday night and monday night.

 

I have done a ring round of the local schools and only one of them has the same problem.

Have you reported it to your electricity provider? They may have a fault in your area.

Yes we have been reporting the surges to the electric company and they say the voltage is within acceptable limits.

 

As only one other school around us has this problem its strange I would think everyone would have it unless we are on a similar feed to the other school with the problem.

 

Does anyone know a good company that could isolate the problem?

Check that the cable coming into your school is rated for the power it's providing, and that rating tallies with what the electricity infrastructure provider thinks it's rated for.

The electricians have just reported this to the electrical supplier. We will wait and see.
