SIMS and IE7

Any problems using IE7 GP with SIMS?

 

Anyone manage IE7 via Group Policy and have SIMS on the workstations?

 

Theres a network problem here and thats the only change ive made.

Ok then, I upgraded the ADM file from the standard IE ADM file to ADM for v7.

 

It's gone through fine but my collegue has spent all day on the phone to SIMS and they think its IE7 policy, yet i've read it does work.

 

So whilst im here panic'ing, they are trying to sort it out and keep asking me loadsof questions. Now thats all I done that day, but the SIMS dir has full access rights to anyone mapped to it so it could have been someone else anyway.

 

Also anyone tried to put the original ADM file back? I've got the original ADM file for IE settings so I may just add that again and overright the old 1. I only changed a couple of settings in it anyway as there wasnt an IE GP originally.

I run the sims installer and get

 

"SIMS Installer was unable to write to the SIMS applications shared directory supplied as "S:\Sims"

 

"Do you wish to correct this?"

 

Then it just quits asthough it cant write.

Have you checked that nothing funny has happened to permissions?

 

Check that:

* the drive is indeed mapped (been there done that!)

* you have sufficient NTFS write permissions

* the share permissions allow write access

Very strange

 

I figured if SIMS didnt work with IE7 then we would have come across faults in it by now as staff laptops have been cropping up with it installed from when they go home and update. Once installed, the local GP settings include the new policy settings to support IE7 yet SIMS still worked. This is 6 months + ago.

 

Therefore how is adding the new IE7 GP to a seperate Group Policy called IE7_Settings only being deployed to staff laptops going to affect the SIMSINST.exe and error?

 

Even the SIMS server runs the same error message when trying to install on itself and that didnt even receive the policy?

 

I really think its a coincidence that this has happened and judging from reading many many topics on IE7 and you guys deploying it, I don't see why it would hurt?
