[sims] Restoring partial information from SIMS database

Hi gang,

 

Back again to post something ONLY when I have a problem. Must stop doing this and post more often.

 

Anyway, to the point, a teacher has been happily working on a marksheet in SIMS and has pretty colours on each person indicated marks, etc.

Assessment Coordinator has added a couple of new columns and this has completely wiped all the colours off. Lots of work gone into this and it's all gone.

Removing the columns doesn't bring the colours back, either, so the teacher in question has asked if I can restore the original from a backup.

 

Now my understanding is that you can only restore a full SIMS database from backup or is there a sneaky way of extracting little bits?

Or am I clutching at straws?

Is it possible to export marksheets? If so you, could build a new, temporary, SIMS server and restore your old DB to that just so you can export the working marksheets and import them?

 

If not, alas I think you maybe clutching at straws.

No partials, certainly not for something so intricate. A test db restore is best option but i'm not sure you'll be able to get the marksheet back. The best thing you can do is to check how it was set up and copy it.

 

How was the teacher doing the colouring? I suspect just within the marksheet columns, rather than it being done at the template level, which is why the update to the template has effectively wiped out their marksheet and started it again. I think this could happen for any change as the marksheet is quite temporary.

 

Exporting marksheets just dumps a spreadsheet (xml) file for importing data with.

 

You could look at adding colour at template level, but then it will apply to all marksheets made from it.
