mbrunt Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Just realised that KB2640148 is breaking our folder redirection group policys. Uninstalling the KB doesnt fix the issue but installing the KB does break folder redirection. A google search has brought up a twitter post confirming the same issue as I'm having but otherwise there is very little info. This is happening accross site affecting up to 1000 computers. Anyone got any ideas? Cheers
FN-GM Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Did you not test the update? Try this in a reg file and see if it fixes it Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderDescriptions\{2112AB0A-C86A-4ffe-A368-0DE96E47012E}] [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderDescriptions\{2112AB0A-C86A-4ffe-A368-0DE96E47012E}\PropertyBag] [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderDescriptions\{491E922F-5643-4af4-A7EB-4E7A138D8174}] [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderDescriptions\{491E922F-5643-4af4-A7EB-4E7A138D8174}\PropertyBag] [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderDescriptions\{7b0db17d-9cd2-4a93-9733-46cc89022e7c}] [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderDescriptions\{7b0db17d-9cd2-4a93-9733-46cc89022e7c}\PropertyBag] [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderDescriptions\{A302545D-DEFF-464b-ABE8-61C8648D939B}] [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderDescriptions\{A302545D-DEFF-464b-ABE8-61C8648D939B}\PropertyBag] [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderDescriptions\{A990AE9F-A03B-4e80-94BC-9912D7504104}] [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderDescriptions\{A990AE9F-A03B-4e80-94BC-9912D7504104}\PropertyBag]
Blue_Cookeh Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Just declined it in WSUS... thanks for the heads up. Can't say we've had any issues with what it appears to fix anyway. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2640148
mbrunt Posted June 22, 2012 Author Posted June 22, 2012 It wasn't me that rolled out the update, it was just left upto me to sort it :-( Thanks for the reg edits, luckily about 5 minutes after posting this post I tried that reg edit anyway, it was the same reg edit that fixed a previous update that also broke the same thing. Weird
Davit2005 Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 I can't find it in WSUS to Decline :-S, is it jus an optional update? I notice the text at the top of the Knowlegebase page and I quote 'Install this update to resolve issues in Windows' urm ????
TechSupp Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 What are the symptoms of the failure, folder redirection gone screwy here but not at work at moment so cant say if we have that update installed.
AngryTechnician Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 @TechSupp: This update was released to WSUS on 14/02/2012. If Folder Redirection is only breaking now, you are either pretty late installing updates, or it's not that causing your problem. I know it hasn't caused any issues for us.
Davit2005 Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 (edited) I have jus started using WSUS as have only now got to the stage of actually being able to test the updates on small groups of computers before rolling out site wide. Is it possible the update has being withdrawn since? Edited June 22, 2012 by Davit2005
AngryTechnician Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 It's not impossible, but if it was withdrawn, that would normally filter through to existing WSUS installations and the update would be expired or superseded. It's still showing as a valid update on mine. Are you syncing the Updates category as well as Security Updates? It is listed under the former.
Davit2005 Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Not syncing the Updates Classification, that'll probably be it then.
TechSupp Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 We have had an issue for a while, as usual no one reported it for ages and just grumbled quietly, once I knew about it I have investigated but not found a solution. As moving to W7 in summer its gone on the back burner as they can still access file by the mapped drive.
