Hidden Science Discoveries

Just a ponderous post. I was thinking about academia and open knowledge, we all know that sharing scientific discoveries is a pillar of civilisation. But what about those that are too potent to have been allowed into the public arena. I thought we'd crowd source an answer in this poll.

None of the stuff above, self washing car, check, nanomaterials coating pretty much does this but it very expencive. Self replication nano-machines, there has been some decent research into using DNA to build stuff, you still need to 'feed' it and trigger various stuff but its on its way - kind of.

 

Hypersonic flight has been tried and works but the planes melt and fall apart thanks to friction. Fusion, they can't get a sustainable reaction going even in the hot kind so the cold variaty is extremely doubtful. AI is a big topic, you have expert systems like Watson from IBM but self awareness is still some time away I think.

The problem with the conspiracy theories that say governments/corportates etc are hiding stuff from us is that they require you to believe those gov/corps are organised enough to hide such things while they are simultaneously demonstrably disorganised enough that they can't even cover up the various scandals involving only a few people.

This is very very true. That being said, the apparent disorganisation of a short-term and comparatively transient government/corporation is conceivably a 'front' to hide the more long term shadow groups. Plausible deniability and all that....
