Proxy Issues - might be Win 7, or Server 2008 R2?

I have a library computer that is on the network as per usual. However, in order to use the microlibrarian fingerprint software the user has to be an admin so I have set up a LOCAL admin for that machine for them to use.(they log on as 'computername\library )

All was well.

THEN we got a new server and also discarded the proxy server- thus changing all policies AND the proxy.

Got a call that they couldnt get the library computer onto the internet (the library is web-based). I thought it was just that the proxy had changed so off I went to put the new one in.

To my surprise, there was no proxy in there at all. I put the new one in and it worked so I thought all was well.

BUT it loses the proxy every time the machine is switched off.

What on earth can be causing this? I am definitely setting the proxy with a local admin account.

 

Can anyone tell me how to force a local proxy so it stays? Have tried via regedit but it still vanishes

Well, any domain GPO would have the proxy in it - and indeed if I log on to the network the proxy is there and fine.

There arent any local GPOs that I can see

just a thought on a n other way of fixing it you can use group policy preferences to make a user an administrator on a pc/group of pcs but still log on with their normal credentials

Does the local account have a mandatory profile? I presume the same problem is there when the library user logs off and back on, as well as a restart?

I just set up a local user - it is just a local profile in the profile list - not mandatory

Yes, it does happen on log off as well.

Would @sted 's answer work - I am always worried about setting up admins on anything

Yes, if you make the domain user or domain Security Group a member of Local Administrators it should work fine.

 

This would remove the need to have a .\local account too. As to why it's losing locally set proxy settings is a bit of a mystery though!

just had another thought you could always use a local gpo to set the proxy or even group policy loopback may work not 100% sure it works on local accounts but should do

Try deleting the local profile for that user and let the machine recreate on the next log on. If it's still doing it after that then I would run RSOP.msc and verify how the policies are being applied to the user.
