Users profile shorcuts

We have mostly 64 bit Windows 7 machines, but some of the older hardware will only take 32bit, Getting rid of the older hardware is currently not an option.

My question is, how can I use 32 bit shorcuts for certain programs i.e. SIMS under a 32 bit environment.

Currently the shortcuts point to Program Files(x86) for all users, on 32 bit machines it needs to be just Program Files. Obviously do not want to have two icons for the different versons, they get confused easily enough.

Hope this makes sense.

I may have found a solution from something said in your link about Junction Points.

These have been changed in Vista upwards & are now called Symbolic Links. I also found a useful program to create the link for you called Directory Linker:

Have yet to try it in anger, but looks promising.

I believe it is related to WMI filters in the group policy. You can make two different start menus for it to pick up for 64bit and 32bit. We have a similar setup at our site, but didn't set it up so that is about as much as I can help.
