New home laptop

Right I think it's time to buy a new laptop for home currently using an Aspire One bought from a deal on here the other year running Joli Os which is great but looking for something bigger.

 

Just found this one on ebuyer Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-2JR Laptop - Laptops | Ebuyer.com what do you all think?

Hey, @plexer... you should know this...

 

 

What's ebuyer's policy for repairs? Say, for example, the HDD fails. Do I have to get onto them or the manufacturer? [i'm guessing them...]

 

Also, how are they when called out on their lame warrenty times? [EU/UK law says it's more than they offer for free...]

 

My internet is really carp at the moment... I can't check anything.

I have the Sat Pro L650 which i think is similar spec. I have not had any problems with it. Nice and quick for what i use it for (Adobe CS5 stuff etc)

im not a fan of the c660 only 2 usb (and close together so 1 fat usb and thats it) battery from new sometimes fails to charge eventually a few out and in of the battery usually fixes but still and ive had a few croak recently

I'm a fan of Samsung laptops. The build quality seems a cut above, especially with the cut-through keyboard (a la Mac).

It's too late now, but I was going to recommend the Steampunk Laptop. Those Victorians really knew how to build laptops.

That is a quality victorian laptop !

 

Ebuyer arent bad and have dealt with any problems I have had in the past without any quibbles (admittedly as a consumer - a few years back I ordered stuff for a new PC, the mobo, cpu and ram were all dead, they took the returns without any issue)

Too late now you bought it, but there are some really good deals on HP stock at the moment with i5 Probooks being very well priced but next month is the end of some very poor performing sales quarters for lots of vendors, with 27k HP workers laid off and lots of stock on distributors shelves I expect the last few weeks of June to be a real bargain fest so start choosing your hardware and put on your poker face as June is going to be a good month for the buyers.

 

Server wise the HP G8's are in full stock everywhere now but there are still lots of G6s and G7 on shelves so again some good deals will be made on those too!

I would be wary of HP laptops, several models have known overheating issues (as my sister found out with hers and a friends daughters burntout) and HP have had a few class actions against them in america because of these issues and the failures associated with them, that being said their laptops are nice enough, but I would say consider that when buying one, google the model before you buy one and see if there are known issues.

the same goes for tosh ive had to bios flash a load of them to stop them "setting on fire" i believe the update said

Was that the nvidia defect? The patch was to make the fans run at full speed. Hmmmm.

 

I had a (two year old) HP G6000 burn out on me but Staples replaced it with a brand new Samsung a year after the warranty expired!

Laptop was delivered today which was good as we only got back from hols today.

I treated myself to a new 'home' laptop this week too

 

Samsung RF711 17.3-inch Laptop (Intel Core i7 2670QM 2.2GHz, 8GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M, 1TB HDD, Blu-ray, LAN, WLAN, BT, Webcam, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit)

 

It has space for two HDD, so I slipped in a 120gb SSD too

 

& I have just had confirmation email that the VAT 'cashback' offer has been approved.

dual hdd bays in a laptop are handy ive done same as you with my xps17 3d 12gb m4 ssd and 750gb d drive
