Morning all,

 

We do all our PAT in house by a mix of a few members of staff as opposed to paying someone to come in and do it for us.

 

I've been asked to take over the management of this, with a view to keeping track of when tests are due and arranging/organising for people to go and do the testing. As part of this I've been asked to put together a PAT plan which details the devices we have in school and when they are due to be re-tested etc.

 

Does anyone have such a plan? Or does anyone have a link to a good site that details how often certain types of appliance should be tested?

I use the software that came with the PAT Tester(Seaward) the software is call PAT Guard Elite. Does the job for me.

We have an electrical company come and PAT test basically everything with a plug socket. The NM is qualified to do PAT testing for the odd new piece of kit and the random kettles that people decide they want to use.

 

Everything here is due for retesting 1 year after it has been tested. There is no law that states how often something should be tested, it's entirely up to you. (please note that PAT testing itself is not a statutory requirement but keeps you covered in the interests of health and safety, as it is proof that the equipment has been tested safe).

 

Simple as that, really.

You should have this information in the booklets you get when you take your PAT course but i've found this:

You need to risk asses this. See page Sorry, I was going to give you the page number for initial periods from the IET CoP, but someone has nicked my copy! The HSE recently published on REDUCING unnecessary testing. See here for info, and here for more info

I used to use Shire Systems software, but recently changed to SimplyPATS as the Shire wouldn't talk to a Fluke tester.
