Silent Background System Update - Mac

Hi,

 

Is there a way, i can have my mac suite automatically download and install updates without the logged on user having any interaction.

 

At the moment, I have software update service running on a mac mini server which works great, but i have to set clients up install the downloaded updates.

 

I have searched but couldnt find anywhere, hoping someone here is doing it

Do you use Apple Remote Desktop? I run a Unix command 'softwareupdate -i -a'. This downloads and installs updates from the software update server without needing any client end interaction.

The command is in the terminal templates under miscellaneous if i recall correctly. You could even schedule the command to run at a set time during the day if you know that the machines will be online at that time. If you have a task server, in theory you could run the command against that and this would in turn run on the client as soon as they appear online. Edited May 22, 2012 by HodgeHi
