Anyone use the RealGame website?

We have an intermittant problem with the flash games coming up as 'Content Blocked', I've phoned the help desk who helpfully told me it was a problem at my end, and nothing he could do.

 

I just wondered if anyone else had encountered it. I've got Flash 11 installed, so I don't think it's due to the wrong version of flash, but could be something else I need to upgrade.

Are you using a Smoothwall box?

I don't personally administer it, but the LEA use one. Could that be it? (actually that would make sense, anything that could be deemed remotely adult tends to get blocked, and this was PHSE stuff about adult life)

Actually, I'm not suer if it is that. As the kids that were blocked on one Computer, were able to check their jobs on another computer. If it was an inappropriate word, it would be blocked on any machine.

'Content Blocked' coming up on a flash object sounds like Smoothwall, as we have a Smoothie box and the exact same occurs (the flash object becomes a black box with white 'Content Blocked' plastered on it).

 

If you don't administer the box, it may be set up in to block a particular room or computer, or perhaps it's another rule getting in the way.

 

Either way, something blocking the content is definitely a filtering issue. Flash objects don't get blocked 'just like that'. I'd contact your LEA and get them to investigate if you don't administer the box.

 

It happens here, identical issue. We just whitelist the site in question and all works fine.

that;s exactly what was happening.

 

I've reported it, so hopefully the LEA can allow it, they are normally pretty good. It was just strange that it wasn't consistent.

Smoothwall boxes can be a bit temperamental. Sometimes it can block something, then allow it. Someone may have set up a rule to block flash games on certain machines.

 

All they should need to do is to whitelist the site for all users, or lift the block on flash objects.

 

Can you not ask them for login details and documentation on how to whitelist objects? I'd think that would help you in the long-run.

Unfortunately, although we are a middle school, we use the Primary school filtering, and it's across the LEA so we don't have access.

 

We could get our own Smoothwall box, but we are a small school and it's not something that's been a priority.

Thanks for your help, the LEA have unblocked it, and it appears to be working now.

I would have never thought of even checking that.
