If you're going to go for a washer and a drying rack then you might want to get a general household dehumidifior - ours seems to take several litres of water out of the air a day.

Contrary to others here we have had Hotpoint Washer Dryers for ever, I have managed to repair ours each time it needed it with a little help from Google and a Phillips screwdriver.

Average lifespan 5-6 years one bearing failure a few motor brushes and one motor across the last 3 units.

Fortunately blessed with a 180ft SE facing garden use of the Condensing dryer is a winter occurrence only, I think if I were limited to a flat a condenser is essential but the running costs need to be carefully worked out.

E-Spares always sorted me out with the parts next day too.

So Hotpoint/Indesit if your capable of a bit of out of warranty action.

I have an Indesit IWC 6165 which was cheap. It does the job fine, except it only fills with cold water, so if you want a hot wash, it heats the water and so costs a fortune to run. Also, it doesn't take in a lot of water, so I find that I get better results if you wet the washing before you turn it on. I pour a couple of litres of water in through the door. The dryer function works well. It's a much longer cycle than my old Hotpoint which died, but it's still quicker than washing by hand.

This seems to be the norm nowadays, all my Hotpoints have been dual fill as I have Economy 7 and I heat my water overnight hence I dont have issues with Limescale in the appliances. Added to this mine is built in to my kitchen units so finding a dual fill replacement to fit the hole is a real pain hence the DIY repairs and 6 year plus life cycle of the Hotpoints.

 

I dare say if I had to cold fill and heat the water every wash maybe the Indesit/Hotpoint would not be as ideally suited to the OP and my own happy experiences of this brand is the exception to the rule.

To be fair, it is the norm. And I stick 2 fingers up to it and plumb the damn machine into a hot line.
