itgeek Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 Hi I am looking to write a disaster recovery plan for our school. Has anybody got a template hey would be willing to share please? Thanks in advance
CyberNerd Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 Keep identical hardware with an identical configuration and synchronised data in an offsite location. That is my plan. But it wasn't funded, so I'll just scramble around for backup tapes whilst looking for a new job. 1
bossman Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 @itgeek: PM me tomorrow morning and I will look up my DRP template and send it to you 2
aleach2 Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 @bossman do you mind if i get in on a bit of the action? Been meaning to do one for a while, just never found the time. Cheers,

With hadware agnostic bare metal recovery it's not needed this an area where vitualisation is good to use as mutlipe san, multiple controllers and multiple hosts all help. Ben

Ben I'm in a bit of a random mood this evening. I wasn't being entirely serious. In the event of a plane crashing into the school, data recovery will be the last of our worries.
GrumbleDook Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 Also make sure that you explain the difference between disaster recovery and business continuity.
bossman Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 @GrumbleDook: DRP is the process by which you resume business after a disruptive event. The event might be something huge-like an earthquake or the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center-or something small, like malfunctioning software caused by a computer virus. Business continuity planning is a more comprehensive approach to making sure you can keep making money, not only after a natural calamity but also in the event of smaller disruptions including illness or departure of key staffers, supply chain partner problems or other challenges that businesses face from time to time. The two terms are often married under the acronym BC/DR because of their many common considerations. Have I got it right? 1
GrumbleDook Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 @bossman : damn, you are good ;-) BC is the most common consideration for schools as this will cover how the school continues to provide an education should part of the building / facilities not be available. Recovering after a flood / fire / asbestos to a temporary offering is one thing, but a good example from a recent thread about BC would be about how you deal with loss of power or a planned loss of power to part or all of the school. 1
Gardinho Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 @bossman, do you mind sharing the Disaster Recovery template with me? Many thanks,

zag Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Virtualisation + clone = disaster recovery plan these days
Popular Post bossman Posted November 27, 2012 Popular Post Posted November 27, 2012 Hi all, Please find documentation templates here They have been taken in part from a corporate template but feel free to alter, I also have a summary DRP template which is a simplified template, if people would like this I will upload this one too. I will keep it on FTP server for one week from today and then take it down. Hope it is of help.DRP and BRP Documents.zip 10
bossman Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Virtualisation + clone = disaster recovery plan these days It also has to be in written form for the person who doesn't know the system and thus this is what we call a DRP or BRP plan. Nice that you have everything sorted my friend but apart from all of us, who else knows your system and what to do in the event of say you getting run over (theoretically speaking mind you, heaven forbid anything should happen to you). ;D 1
Olliekai Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 Don't suppose I could cheekily ask for you to send me a copy? Have to make one ASAP. Thanks
