Group Policy And Folder Redirection

I have set up a new OU with our active directory and set up some test users. i am setting up a group policy for folder redirection for start menu and desktop now once this is applied i go into the folders for start menu and put some shortcuts in there and i also do the same for desktop. Now when i login them shortcuts are not there but the default icons on the desktop are. So i decided that in server 2008 you can just put desktop shortcuts in and start menu shortcuts on group policy so i have also tried this and i still get the default icons plus my shortcuts. Why is this not just showing the shortcuts i am putting there and nothing else? I used to do this in server 2003 and it worked correctly.

There are a few more group policy options you can enable such as removing common items from the start menu that will help.

 

Also check the permissions for the share.

We had a windows update cuase this. Try this reg file, it fixed it for us.

i have tried the above and it is still doing the same thing. its just not getting my icons from the folder but putting default icons on the start menu and desktop
