file type ?

Evening all,

 

My driving instructor has some videos he wanted to me to convert off of his camera so he can play them on his laptop or burn them to dvd..It's for the students to take home and watch back their lesson! however the video file is a ".drs" file and I have tried every player and every file converter I know but no joy! I cant even play the file let alone convert it!!!!!

 

Any Ideas ?

 

I'll upload one of the files (24 meg) can anyone see what they can do ?

P.S I've tried renaming the files to .avi .mpeg.... etc

Your best bet would be to find out exactly which camera model has recorded the videos and check the manufacturers homepage for video players / converters - just in case its some obscure manufacturer only file format

Well the ones he's handed me at the moment are training videos he did last year... since then the camera has gone as hes upgraded but he still needs to use the clips but since also lost the software he used as hes got a new laptop and the old ones long gone!

 

I've uploaded the file in a 7z format if someone could please have a look see what they can figure out... I've tried everything I can think of!!

 

I cant upload in a zip unfortunately... it exceeds the forums max size. The files are 24 MB each.

From the filename I think this was shot on a specialist in-car camera, something like the Gemini NCB-D200. They are pretty hard to get hold of (only place I know is imports via eBay) and I have no idea where to get the software separately.

 

If it was shot on one of these, you may be out of luck.

The carpa 120 car black box cameras seem to save with that file name too....

I have tried both those programs... they don't recognize the file type and don't work without the camera

I tried and filed to get anything from the file

 

All the research I did points towards a .drs file being a WordPerfect Driver Resource file, so no help there!

No I know... even in Hex Editor I cant see anything... even if it had been like a type of MPEG but cant find anything!!

Oddly, opening it in VLC Media Player starts to 'play' a blank screen with a time length of about 1hour45minutes, but no sound or image can be found and if you try to skip to any point on the timeline it just stops playing.

 

I managed to get the WordPerfect Presentation to accept the file and try to convert it, but the most I got was a bunch of random code in varous letters, figures and sizes/fonts, nothing usable in the slightest.

 

It must have been a very specific camera & software combo needed!

trouble is the error is in Chinese >.< but it looks like it wants a second file that's linked to that one starting with drf0_ and its partner starting with drf1_

I have all of the files and tried them all in that program and queued them up and it still spat out an error in Chinese.

Only other suggestion i can think of is if you look on YouTube and search the drf0_ part of the file name you get loads of driving vids, maybe message one of the posters and hope for the best?

It's a long shot, but you could try playing the videos with Digital Replay System.

Have you tried converting with FFMPEG tends to be able to convert most things

Another app you could try is File Juicer (if you have access to a Mac)...

 

File Juicer is a drag & drop can opener and data archaeologist. Its specialty is to find and extract images, video, audio or text from files which are hard to open in other ways.

 

It finds and extracts: JPEG, JP2, PNG, GIF, PDF, BMP, WMF, EMF, PICT, TIFF, Flash, Zip, HTML, WAV, AVI, MOV, MP4, MPG, MP3, AIFF, AU, WMV or text from files which contain data in those formats.

 

Lossless extraction... File Juicer does't convert the images/sounds/videos it finds, but saves them unchanged in their original format if possible. See the manual for details.

You could try installing an Adobe Premiere Pro trial. That has the ability to recognise a pretty hefty raft of formats.
