Xbox patent ruling favours Motorola over Microsoft

Thought this was quite ironic.

Google long argued for open video standards instead of h.264. Apple and MS were dead set against the idea.

Motorola owned the h.264 patents, motorola sues MS. Google buys motorola. MS pays google.

Its interesting how Motorola dont license on what seems like fair rates if the $4B figure is to be believed.

 

3/4 of the patents are supposed to be FRAND licensed but we all know Motorola is fair with that pricing:

At the start of April, the European Commission said that it had launched two investigations into whether Motorola's efforts to enforce its Frand-type innovations amounted to "an abuse of a dominant market position".

I love the fact google are buying a company that appears to be a big abuser of FRAND patents to bully competition ROFL something google cries about all the time with MS/Apple.
