Anti-Virus Stopping PC From Being Idle

Turns out the reason that my PCs aren't hibernating is because the anti-virus software (Avira) is constantly chattering away in the background so the PC never goes idle, and therefore the sleep/hibernate timers never activate. So, I have two options as I see it: 1) change AV to something which doesn't do this, 2) find an alternative way to hibernate a PC which isn't in use (by a human, that is).

 

I suspect that the former is easier, assuming such a product even exists, although the latter might be quicker. Thoughts?

If that is why your computers are not sleeping then you need to talk to Avira.

That's strange, I wonder what we have running that you don't.

 

Looking at Task Manager, I have the avgnt.exe process running, and under "Services", AntiVir Security Management Center Agent, AntiVirScheduler Service AntiVirService are all running. How does that compare with your computers?

We also have a mix of Version 11 and 2012

A process of trial and elimination - Avira seems to be the only difference between those PCs which hibernate and those which don't.
