VNC. Why do school techies dislike it?

I have being trying for over a year to get a school to use VNC to enable visually impaired pupils at KS3 to receive the IWB image on their laptops. However there is a universal dislike of it down here in sunny Dorset. I am told it is too difficult to install, or too insecure or it will enable the student to corrupt the school network. I am unable to argue the case because I am a guest in the school and have no real authority to insist on it unless I envoke the DDA which is a big hammer and immediately gets backs up. All I want is access to the IWB!

 

 

There are concerns with VNC and while we use it under certain circumstances where I work, I totally sympathise with people who won't.

 

Mentioning things like DDA allows you to insist that a solution is found, and I'd encourage you to do so if that is what it takes to meet the needs of all students, but it doesn't allow you to insist on one solution over another, just to produce a list of requirements that have to be met.

From what I read, the OP is an LA employee and as such he wouldnt have the power to tell the school to buy something like Impero, brilliant though it may be - so the solution has to be very cheap or free.

I hope he understands a little more why VNC may not be the perfect answer he was hoping for now.
