What max size CPU can i put in thee boards?

I have been offered a dozen motherboards free from one of our old suppliers. (Guess they no longer use them.)

 

We are thinking of having them from stock incase our machines go down and we need to replace the boards.. THe board is a Foxconn 648/661 series but i am unsure as to what would be the max CPU socket 775 we could use in them.

 

Can anyone help?

Well the 648 boards sound like they will be based on the SIS 648 chipset which does not have onboard graphics, I notice three models on foxconn's website Here

By the looks of it these boards will accept a prescott core at the most.

 

There are many 661 sis based boards by the looks of it from foxconn I think you are best off getting the model numbers for these.

 

I would guess these will also only take prescott cores if they are going spare.

 

Did you want to use these as spares for older machines or were you looking to get some cpus as well?

Was possibly thinking of getting CPUs as well. Forgive me as i am not up with the terminolgy of the CPU ( never got my head round it) but does this mean i could put a P4 3.2 in these boards?

Sorry my bad, prescott is the code name for a core used in older pentium 4 and celeron cpus, the Pentium 4 and Celeron cpus available new are Cedar Mill core and will most likley not work in these boards (hence your supplier wanting to offload them)

 

Best thing to do is get the exact model numbers of the boards and then gotp http://www.foxconnchannel.com and check the cpu support tables for the boards.

 

If you were thinking about picking up cpus from the likes of ebay there are plenty of older models on there that should fit into these boards.
