Create a course and set it as a child course with another course using it as metacourse (if I've got the words wrong - don't blame me - blame the moodle bods for using such stupid language)

 

E.g set one course up and then set another course to use the same enrollment membership for its course

 

 

Then try and add in say 100 pupils to the 1st course (the one I'd call the master course and the one moodle calls (I think anyway) the child course.

 

 

Does your VLE give up on you and only end up adding 10-15 pupils to the course therefore making you try again!.

 

Mine does (CLEO Hosted) and I'd like to know if its them or general moodle issue

Does it have to be a metacourse? Don't you just mean if you try to assign a load of pupils into a course in one go it will hang and you have to start again? I have noticed that if do it manually sometimes -if I have to manually assign pupils I do it ten/fifteen at a time to be on the safe side, although I have found it to be hit and miss whether it will let you assign a whole year group in one go or not. Maybe it depends on its mood on the day;) You could try with a csv file instead - if there is only the one course to assign them to then it shouldn't "hang".

Well, I now assign pupils to "child" (master) courses and then assign all other courses as "metacourses" to these master courses so I don't have any normal courses now

 

But from what you are saying our cleo hosted moodles just can't hack >15 being added at a time!

 

I wonder what happens with people with their own moodle servers?

We run moodle on our only server and can add as many children as we like - well, at least one year group at a time - about 90 children
