[sims] Automated SOLUS3 Deployment question

The Scenario

 

A school has a new SOLUS3 environment set up. All workstations are part of the SIMS Workstation group. The Auto-Deployment feature in SOLUS3 is enabled for SIMS upgrades and the time is set to run between 20:00 and 07:00 every day. As an LA, we authorise the Spring upgrade to the school which downloads into their Repository ready to be deployed. The school power down all SIMS workstations at 17:00 this evening and go home. 20:00 arrives and SOLUS3 begins the SIMS Spring upgrade deployment as per the Auto-Deployment schedule and updates the relevant SIMS components on the server (as it's the only SIMS device online) successfully.

 

The Question

 

The next day at 07:00 does SOLUS3 stop the SIMS Spring upgrade completely? When the school come in at 08:00 and boot up their SIMS workstations, does SOLUS3 see they are out of date and upgrade them? Or because the schedule end time is set to 07:00, nothing happens and all workstations are left with incompatible database errors?

My understand is that between 20:00 and 07:00 it will do any deployments that are scheduled. If the machines are marked as offline, and they are offline, they will upgrade when they come back online. Or will at least attempt to upgrade. The scheduled update should then report back as "successful" or part successful as a number of workstations were offline. If the workstation is marked as online but is actually offline (unlikely since .103), then it will timeout and fail. You will have to redeploy to any machines that fail. Thankfully, this is REALLY easy in the new(er) versions of SOLUS3.

 

Another problem you'll find, maybe, is that the report of what version of SIMS workstations machines are running maybe incorrect and look worse then it actually is. I've been told this is being looked at for the next release. Just a heads up.

One thing i have noticed but need to check further is a few of my XP laptops didn't automatically upgrade when they came online the following day but my windows 7 laptops did.

Simply re-deployed the workstation upgrade and this went through fine

Cheers chaps. We've got the agent on (what we believe to be) all SIMS/FMS/Discover devices in School but just want to be 100% sure on the process for getting the SIMS Spring upgrade out there.
