Microsoft .NET Framework security error when running software

Morning guys!

I've been asked to install some language software on the machines here, and have been having problems ever since i put the disk in >.<

The first being that the software would not load because it could not find the correct version on .NET framework, i had 4 installed on the machine but it seems as though it wanted .NET framwork 2. I thought this was odd because I figured that the newer releases of .NET framework came with everything that the old releases had?

Once i installed framework 2, i tried to run the program again, only to get this (sorry for the pasting the whole thing, but i think this is way out of my league - im just a lowly apprentice) :

See the end of this message for details on invoking

just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************

To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this

application or computer (machine.config) must have the

jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.

The application must also be compiled with debugging

enabled.

For example:

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception

will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer

rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Any ideas as to what can be causing this? I've tried to get in contact with the manufacturers but have had no luck.

The .NET family are all slightly different, so if an application requires .NET 2.0 then you must install that.

If you're running XP you have to install .NET 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0. It's a big job. On top of this, you have to worry about .NET Service Packs - again, all these are separate, which makes it an even bigger job and a good reason to use Windows 7.

Fortunately Windows 7 has .NET 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5 as standard. You just need to worry about .NET 4.0.

With regards to your message, I would say it looks like an issue with the application rather than .NET itself (bearing in mind you've just installed it).
