Sheridan Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 I'm about to give up on getting any video player working in joomla. I've got a 1 minute mp4 video file I need to put on our 1.7 site. I've tried JPlayer - displays nothing, no border - zilch. Checking the page source shows the code is all correct. I've tried bo_videojs - displays the player but never plays the linked file. Lastly I've spent more time with JWPlayer which at least displays the player and an error saying 'video not found or access denied' which isn't correct as I can play the video by putting the pathname directly into a browser. Anyone got any suggestions for a Joomla 1.7 video player that will actually work and play a simple mp4 clip?
3s-gtech Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 (edited) Joomlaworks Allvideos (JWPlayer) is what we use. It's nice and light, flexible and looks good. We're running on Joomla 1.5 currently. We also transcode videos to flv using the Flash video converter in Studio 8 if that might help. Check and double check your syntax when adding videos, it's essential to get it spot on. Sheridan Posted March 13, 2012 Author Posted March 13, 2012 JWPlayer is the one I've tried most recently - but it simply says 'video not found or access denied' when trying to play the video. The path is definitely correct (if you enter the url manually you can view/download the video) I've set the base path in for the plugin but it just comes up with the same error every time.
Sheridan Posted March 14, 2012 Author Posted March 14, 2012 Well I seem to have got around this. Converting the video to flv and using th {flv} tags seems to work fine. The error message was misleading, the file was there but there was obviously something wrong with the mp4 encoding. Both JPlayer and JWPlayer work nicely now!
HodgeHi Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 (edited) I use an HTML 5 player, which downgrades to playing the video through flash if an incompatible browser is found. It works quite well although a little slow to start playing videos. Good for mobile devices with no flash support though Link to plugin We also run Joomla 1.5.x Edited March 23, 2012 by HodgeHi 1
PeteW Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 Nice find on that player. And on a side note, there has been some SQLi vulnerabilities found in Joomla but they have only released a patch for J2.5 (as all other versions are EOL). I would strongly advise upgrading your J1.7 when you can. Most things "should" work on J2.5 as they do in J1.6/1.7
