Windows 7 Prism package builder alternatives?

Afternoon all,

 

As mentioned in another thread we will be moving away from CSE over the summer and going from XP to Win 7.

 

Currently we use prism snapshot package builder to create software packages and send them to our workstations.

 

Is there a similar product available that will work on Windows 7?

Prism deploy packager works just fine..

 

Packaging Software - Package Deployment Software - Prism Deploy

 

We use it then deploy the resulting packages with Specops Deploy.

Thanks, I contacted the UK Prism reseller and confirmed version 12 works on Win 7 32 and 64 bit.

 

Is anyone using any alternatives that I could consider?

Sorry to resurect this thread but I am in a similar position.

 

The CSE product uses Prism Deploy Packager which works for some things but we are getting unreliable distribution of all other packages (MSI and EXE) which software houses seem to be providing more and more.

 

How are you getting along with the migration? Have you come across any hurdles with software so far? I am currently looking into the functions which CSE provides which obviously need to be replicated. The software deployment seems to be the stumbling block at the moment though.

 

Prism deploy looks good, am wondering if anyone else uses the deploy side (not the deploy packager, which was originally prism pack).

We use prism packager for some things - but most msi and some exe packages deploy fine without too much messing with our chosen deployment solution, Specops Deploy - which we find to be very good..

Just had a look at specops deploy, how does it rate for cost?

 

Its mainly the EXE and MSI that I would want to deploy, I currently deploy MSIs like flash and Shockwave through startup script as other methods are so unreliable.

Specops deploy is brilliant -negotiate hard and you may be surprised at the cost.. (cost depends on the number of installed computers.)

 

We installed ours 2 years ago to help us move to Windows 7, and did xhundred PCs from XP to Win7 in a week.. At that time we were deploying a base image, then deploying the applications after depending on location..

 

There are other solutions out there - this one worked for us, was easy to setup and quick to learn..

Thats pretty good checked out the site and it seems really good. We have 700 client stations so it seems whatever solution we go for it will not be cheap

I think I've seen the specops banner ad on edugeek - so they may be a site sponsor and monitor these threads?
