Hiya

Has anyone had to change a HP motherboard on a laptop and used this:

"Utility to Reprogram an Electronic Serial Number into BIOS"

HP Compaq d530 Convertible Minitower Desktop PC*-* Utility to Reprogram an Electronic Serial Number into BIOS - HP Business Support Center

I have a faulty laptop and it costs £389 to send away for repair

But i guess the motherboard will be cheaper, but have been told that the serial in the bios must correspond with the mboard

Thanks

For that price I'd consider a new laptop. What model is your current (broken) one, and what is up with it exactly?

TBH, I'd be very wary about programming anything into the BIOS, and considering the BIOS is integrated with the motherboard and isn't working anyway, what is it you are trying to acheive?

I would have thought the BIOS would be integrated with the motherboard on a laptop, so getting a new motherboard would also mean you are getting a new and corresponding BIOS.

I think I am getting mixed up.

After speaking to HP again.

Its a branding tool that HP said I need, and I think its regarding the OEM software, so that it associates itself and works with the new boards serial number.
