About 3-4 years ago we ditched SIMS for our financial DB and moved on. The issues is that on the rare occasion someone needs to access old financial data. This hadn't been a problem as I still had the old server (6+ years old). However I am now trying to get rid of the thing for a number of reasons including the fact that I am removing the domain it is a domain controlller for.

So my bright idea was to virtualise it, which I have done, and yep you guessed it everything works apart from Earnie32 which comes up with an error:

Error in General.bas:: Sub MainEntry: Error 2147024770 - Automation error. The specified module could not be found.

The software still works OK on the actual server!

I'm assuming it's something to do with the virtualisation, but I've posted it here as an MIS/Earnie32 error. Can anyone suggest anything?

wish we could ditch earnie32... horrible little program :(

I would try copying the earnie folder off onto a workstation and seeing if it'd run, I can't remember if it relies on registry entrys but I half suspect it dosen't. if you still have update cd's for it I'd re-install from there

will take a look at our finance machines registry's

Some googline seems to point to errors with the dll's in the VB??? at least that's what people with the same error code have.

Something's using an SQL instance but I'm not sure if that's Earnie or something else... I hate oblsolete software we "have" to have access to.

Not sure if I can copy it off either, tried that.

Earnie isn't SQL based as yet so that shouldn't be related.

Just had a look on supportnet for you, the error is listed but the only advice is to re-install on both server and client :(

do you know what version you're on? I might still have some of the old cd's around here somewhere, might not have anything old enough though

But I might have done you a slight dis-service. Once I remembered you need to run the workstation setup i have been able to get it to run on a test machine using coppied files.

Whilst I can get to the log in screen (better than before) I can't log in yet as I need to track down someone with a username and password. Of slight concern is that it hasn't asked me where the data is. We seem to have an Earnie32Data folder in a sperate location on the server and I don't know if it's looking at that for the data... I need to try logginh in first.

sounds like progress :)

our data is stored in a subfolder of the earnie32 folder called paydata, I get the impression it just looks at that folder and loads all databases contained within, I can't see any ini files that'd give a location.

installing the workstation software as you've done should sort it out

Rah! Finally found someone with login details and it would seem that I can install it after copying the files. (It prompts for the data files after I log in)

Cheers for the suggestion.
