iparlak Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 I have HP laserjet P1006 printer on windows xp pro with sp2. Printer driver is latest driver. When I uninstall printer then reboot the computer and reinstall the printer again it works fine. After a few days printer stops working again. It says printer spooler service is not running but printer spooler service is already working. After uninstalling and reinstalling the printer driver it starts working again for a few days then istops again. Is there any permenant solution to this issue? Regards, ip
Mcshammer_dj Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 have you looked at the recovery options for the printer spooler? Have you tried a batch file to stop and then restart the service?
iparlak Posted March 8, 2012 Author Posted March 8, 2012 I have checked the recovery options. These three options has been setup as "restart the service". I have 25 of these printers. All of them are doing the same problem.
Dos_Box Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 I had this years ago and it really did my head in as I could find no cause for it. In the end I used the eventtrigger command to restart the service. You only need to set it once and it will monitor for an event (such as the spooler service stopping) and automatically restart it. It's really easy to do as well, which is a bonus. edutech4schools Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 Rather than uninstalling just stop the spooler service then open the spooler folder and delete all the print jobs, then start the spooler service. As for the actual issue, I have the same problem at one of my schools. I think I have narrowed it down to a corrupt adobe install on a few laptops. If I print from adobe on one of these laptops it firstly crashes the printer, then if they try and print again it crashes the spooler. It takes ages to work out what's causing these issues as it can be drivers, firmware, OS, or the software they are printing from that causes it.
Michael Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 Interestingly looking at more info (on HP's site), it mentions the following: Fixed the issue that printjob will hang in spooler after powercycling P1005 while OOP error occurs It says it's v8.0, dated 26th November 2010. Are you using the basic or full driver version? On a separate issue, is there any reason why you're still using XP SP2? This has long expired and you should be using XP SP3 at the very least.
