3Com Device Manager vs. Bandwidth Monitoring

Hi folks,

 

I'm trying to get a handle on how much our Internet connection is used, specifically bandwidth peaks.

 

To this end I am monitoring the port on the 3Com 5500 switch that then connects into our LA provided Internet connection. The software I'm using, provided by a previous consultant, is 3Com's Device Manager. I am specifically using the Port Monitor function which provides a graph of bandwidth. The only problem is the graph's Y-axis doesn't give any units, and it isn't entirely clear from the numbers what they relate to either. Has anyone used Port Monitor, and know what the Y-axis scale is?

 

Is there a better way to monitor Internet usage?

 

Edit: just to add, I'm a complete novice with switches. I was only able to do the current monitoring by virtue of the consultant installing this software.
