FN-GM Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Hi, I had googled this and was surprised not to find much. I have a test AD setup. I test various stuff on it. I would like to import a number of fictional users. Does anyone know where i could obtain this please? It would be nice if there are some specially for AD that use most fields but it isnt a must. Thanks
jsnetman Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Just create them yourself in a spreadsheet and import them with addusers.exe.
FN-GM Posted February 24, 2012 Author Posted February 24, 2012 I know how to import users that easy. I am just after a pile of fictional data. Thanks
cromertech Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 You mean like you would use Lorem Ipsum text to populate a webpage? Edit http://generator.my-addr.com/generate_usernames-free_username_generator_online_tool.php may help but only generates usernames
jsnetman Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 It's very easy with excel to do that, just create one line like FicUser1, password1,............. and so on and tehn copy the data down. You can have as many as you want.
FN-GM Posted February 24, 2012 Author Posted February 24, 2012 You mean like you would use Lorem Ipsum text to populate a webpage? I could but proper names, job titles etc would be better. When testing stuff you would get a better feel of what it would be like in production. It's very easy with excel to do that, just create one line like FicUser1, password1,............. and so on and tehn copy the data down. You can have as many as you want. I would but i dont have time to do 1000 users and fill in every field in AD i would run out of names as well
AngryTechnician Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Sounds like a KS3 ICT assignment if you ask me! "Produce a system to randomly generate fictional user records with the following columns in a spreadsheet..."
jsnetman Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Like I say you only need to create one row, make sure that each field ends with a number, when you copy the data down the number appends to the next. You can create 1000 users in about 2 seconds once you have the first row set up.
FN-GM Posted February 24, 2012 Author Posted February 24, 2012 What can i say i never did pay attention in ICT ha ha
Dos_Box Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Ta-daaa!: Create Users for Testing Purposes
Dos_Box Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 That one will create a list of up to 50 random names that you can export as a text file. I'm still looking for something a bit better.
Admiral208 Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Any good? Filling up Active Directory (AD) with some test data - Keith Combs' Blahg - Site Home - TechNet Blogs Little bit of find and replace to customise the domain parts and bobs your dads brother!
PiqueABoo Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Slight tangent but many years ago GPMC arrrived and it came with some scripts: One will export full AD config (users, groups, memberships, OU structure, AD permissions, GPOs inc GPPs) to an XML file plus sysvol-like folders for the GPOs, and another will import all of that into a fresh DC. Still works on 2008 R2.
