ADDING A NEW SERVER 2008R2

Hi guys, I have two servers 2003DC (32bit), which have been there for some time. I thought of adding a new server 2008R2 (DELL T710) so that I can release some roles from my old server (DC1) which runs really slowly. DC1 is DNS/DHCP/File Server/Print Server/Ranger. DC2 (GC) is DNS/DHCP/Application Server/File server. I want to add the new server 2008R2 and add DNS /print server/ Ranger.

 

Can anyone advice me on how to do this please.

What is it you need advice on?

 

Is it how to setup the new server?

Is it how to move dns or other roles to the new server?

or is it advice on which roles should go on the new server?

 

or something else

I did setup the server 2008R2, I would like to know how to add the server to the existing domains(2003/32) and moving roles to the new server.

You need to prep your active directory first, full instructions can be found here - http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows-server-2000-2003/76455-adprep-forestprep-domainprep.html.

You then just promote the new 2008 r2 server to a DC and add the DNS and print services. DNS will replicate across from your other servers, print is fun and games so have a good search on here for tips about running a 2008 r2 print server. Ranger I don't run so not sure on that one, I'm sure someone will be along soon who does.
