synaesthesia Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 This may apply to other models as well, but please keep an eye on the power supplies, particularly the J9306a POE+ supply ; it's possible there may be a fault and some people are having to fight HP to prove they haven't blown them up with a power surge. We've been lucky and (sort of) got our 2 replaced (they sent us a power supply and a printer tray, no matter how much I tried I can't get the printer tray to fit into the switch) and there's absolutely no reason why 2 switch power supplies connected ONLY via fibre would simultaneously (within a minute) fail. They continue to power the switch, just permanently show as faulted with no POE voltage. Even with POE turned off.
IrritableTech Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 My 5412ZL has two J8712A PSUs in it (providing plenty of power at the moment). But we do have a J9306a in a box (ordered in error) if anyone wants to buy a spare just in case (I'm only half joking)!
synaesthesia Posted February 22, 2012 Author Posted February 22, 2012 Heh, we may take you up on that as long as a) we get any budget next year that will actually cope with IT hardware as well as consumables (by those I mean items the IT department will consume, mostly biscuits) and b) you can do it substantially less than the retail price! I'm having a rant at them as they're touting their next day replacement service and "we can just hot swap it out" when in fact we can't because they refuse to supply a power cable to go with it. Then demand the old ones back in 3 days time - tough, we're not swapping them in a production environment in the day!
Oaktech Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Has there been any other indication of a problem other than flat out failure? We've had a couple of crashes on our 5406zl for no apparent reason recently.
synaesthesia Posted February 22, 2012 Author Posted February 22, 2012 Ours have been rock solid, it's just the flashy error lights that have been annoying us (due to POE failure). Not been in long though, only a couple of months.
