basicchannel Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Hi, I am *trying* to set up a Debian server to act as a dedicated Xibo server (don't ask - I just wanted to find an excuse to fiddle with a Debian server in work). I am having real issues with getting it to access the outside world through our proxy server. After doing extensive searches on the net, most only deal with setting up a Debian server as a proxy server, not setting it up so it can go through one. I have tried export HTTP_PROXY="http://xx.xx.xxx.xx:8000", and I've also tried putting it directly in the wgetrc file (as suggested by a website) but pings still return 'Packet Filtered', ,and wget commands fail miserably. Any help would be much appreciated. After inputting the command route -n, I have noticed the destination and gateway addresses are wrong. Would this affect the above, and how do I rectify this? Thanks in advance

Thanks in advance it would if the proxy is on a different subnet edit /etc/network/interfaces my /etc/wgetrc says https_proxy = http://192.168.92.102:8080/ http_proxy = http://192.168.92.102:8080/ ftp_proxy = http://192.168.92.102:8080/ 1
glennda Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 (edited) If the proxy needs auth then it needs to be http://user:password@ip:port/ Edited February 21, 2012 by glennda
CyberNerd Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 you will also want this in /etc/apt.conf Acquire::http::proxy "http://192.168.92.102:8080/"; Acquire::ftp::proxy "ftp://192.168.72.92:8080/"; Acquire::https::proxy "https://192.168.92.102:8080/";
3s-gtech Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Using VIM or similar, set the above to get apt working from a terminal session. Have you set a static IP? That'll be useful too, so using VIM again: # /etc/network/interfaces -- configuration file for ifup(8), ifdown(8) # The loopback interface auto lo iface lo inet loopback # The first network card - this entry was created during the Debian installation # (network, broadcast and gateway are optional) auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.1.10 (your choice here) netmask 255.255.255.0 (as above) network 192.168.1.0 (as above) broadcast 192.168.1.255 (as above) gateway 192.168.1.1 (as above)
basicchannel Posted February 21, 2012 Author Posted February 21, 2012 you will also want this in /etc/apt.conf Am I right in thinking it's now /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/70debconf ?

I appeared to have missed out some important information here (ahem...) Thanks to all
januttall Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 FYI. if you have more than one interface and IF you have set (even by DHCP) more then one gateway address. it wont be able to access the internet as it gets stuck with the default gateway, even if both networks go to the internet. Solution: set all but mabe one interface to static adresses (not dynamic [DHCP]) and dont provide a gateway address for any more then one interface (with internet) as it will cause issues.
