matt40k Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Does anyone know a/ why Capita doesn't give you the option to create a desktop shortcut when you install SIMS .net onto a workstation and b/ what the CR no is on supportnet? - someone must have logged this once upon a time!!
Achandler Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Because SIMS was made in 1985 when Desktop Shortcuts were just a pipe dream and you still typed "win" in Dos to open Windows 3.1
matt40k Posted February 15, 2012 Author Posted February 15, 2012 Yes and SIMS .net was written in the times shortcuts... unless your saying your still using SIMS v1? hehe
glennda Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Because if you install sims on machines students will use they will have access to the shortcuts as they would have to be be placed on all user/public desktop it was written at times when gpo functionality was less then today's BTW just my guess and it does mean teachers.have to.learn to create a shortcut
matt40k Posted February 15, 2012 Author Posted February 15, 2012 Same if it went in the start menu surely? Very true, then you get the "why doesn't it work?" post upgrade when you find out that "handy" shortcut doesn't include simsload - not that it matters with SOLUS3. Basically another annoyance I could do without - what 5mins work for Capita? hundreds of less calls for the customers

I'm just guessing tbh Still not got Solus3 - apparently this summer its coming but who knows!
matt40k Posted February 15, 2012 Author Posted February 15, 2012 The updated version of SOLUS3 won't be out until after Spring 12. So question of if you can wait for Spring 12. Unless you fancy the extra work
matt40k Posted February 15, 2012 Author Posted February 15, 2012 Having said that if Spring 12 is anything like Autumn 11 - a few months wouldn't be a bad idea hehe 1
glennda Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 We'll i've volunteered to be a guinea pig for the LEA (who are now capita anyway) for there roll out. But they are not starting until May time to think about it!
FN-GM Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 When in the UK the managed provider (Capita) wouldnt support Solus 3 as they said it was unstable. How ironic
glennda Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 When in the UK the managed provider (Capita) wouldnt support Solus 3 as they said it was unstable. How ironic We where under the LEA's support team - which in the last 2 months the entire IT infrastructure and support has been outsourced to Capita including the Sims Support team (which makes sense!). The Sims Support has gone up and is even better then rest has gone down hill but thats for another thread!
vikpaw Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 In these times a simple lesson of ' window button; type "sims" ' with an optional ' right click; pin to task bar ' surely trumps any user issues and teaches them a skill they can record as CPD!
