Log-off Hang

We have one workstation that seems to refuse to let people log-off. You can click on "Log off" and the taskbar and desktop icons will disappear, but it will just stop there.

 

It doesn't freeze though. Pressing ctrl+alt+del and then 'cancel' will then bring back all the icons and the taskbar. So far, the only way I have been able to log the computer off is to do it remotely or by forcing a shutdown (not something I like to do very often).

 

Any ideas?

I did - but I have checked so many today that I can't actually remember what it said any more. It's OFSTED tomorrow, so I might have another look tomorrow to make it seem like I do something worthwhile at school rather than just hide in the staff room.

If its OFSTED tomorrow i would just rebuild the machine, rather than figure the problem out. Good luck for tomorrow

Are you sure that it isn't a certain user using that computer and when they log off, their profile is corrupt thus causing the log off to hang?

 

I get that from time to time.

 

So long as the machine isn't doing anything i.e. no HDD activity, etc., i just power off and back on again.

 

Not effected any of the machines we have here in any case.

I am more sure that it is the workstation, since I am led to believe that it occurs with more than one child - and the problem doesn't occur on other PCs.

Ahhh right-o

 

If you deploy images of computers, your probably best rebuilding it then if the others of the same model in the room dont have any problems.

 

Put it down to a technical hiccup in the deployment process last time around hehe
