ricki Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 HI Please could someone help. I am stuck I have managed to get my wds server up and running and have imported boot imaged for windows pe from windows 7 disk, Litetouch, windows 7 boot. I have imported the install.wim for windows 7 and that works. I have prepared an image on a windows 7 machine and captured it it will deploy unattended no problem through litetouch and that works. I have created a windows xp machine and syspreped it and that works with ghost no problem. I have captured the image and put it into imstall images on the wds. When I run litetouch it does not list the windows xp image in the task sequence to execute. I have tried using the win 7 boot create a capture image and pointing it at the windows xp thats captured and sysprep and it says its not a boot image. Please can some one help. Thanks Richard
sted Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 litetouch is mdt NOT wds (at least the default naming) to deploy an image captured in wds you just want the boot image taken straight from a win7 dvd NOT an mdt boot image
ricki Posted February 9, 2012 Author Posted February 9, 2012 Hi I have captured the image with the boot from windows 7 The litetouch works with the windows 7. I have done some research and according to one blog you cannot deploy legacy computers with wds windows 2008 r2. The image from the windows xp is in a wim format. Has anyone got a way I can do this? Richard
sted Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 all i can do is repeat what i said above lighttouch boots to the mdt deployment sceens NOT wds ones the options/interfaces are different. They both use wds to boot but then i have a win pe install with a full gui on my servers as well so when a teacher screws up a laptop so bad it wont boot i can just drag and drop files from their hdd to the network lite touch is also x86/x64 specific so while you can deploy an x86 wds image when boted from an x64 boot image litetouch mdt cant do that as its building an install not deploying an image litetouch boot image first screen wds boot screen
ricki Posted February 10, 2012 Author Posted February 10, 2012 HI I grabbed the image using the windows 7 boot.wim and have the image of the syspreped windows xp on wds under the install tab on the left side. I have tried to create a boot one with the windows pe boot wim and then attach the windows xp wim but it says its not a boot disk. Do I have to pxe boot the client machine into windows pe and use image x to put the windows xp image on the server onto the client machine or can I somehow create a boot.wim with the windows pe and get round the problem of it saying its not a boot image. Richard
ChrisH Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 (edited) You need to decide whether or not you want to use the WDS methods or the MDT (Litetouch) Methods. If you want to use use MDT which I strongly recommend, you need to import the boot image from your deployment share into wds and use that. You then need to make sure you have imported your custom image and make an install task for it under MDT. Edited February 10, 2012 by ChrisH
