Edu-IT Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 When I run slmgr.vbs /dlv it shows Microsoft Office 2010 as being licensed. However, there's no information like: Key Management Service is enabled on this computer. and as such I don't think KMS is working properly, and clients aren't activating. What am I missing?

So, for every command that you would normally use for Server or Windows 7, you use the same commands but with bfe7a195-4f8f-4f0b-a622-cf13c7d16864 at the end? i.e. cscript slmgr.vbs /dti bfe7a195-4f8f-4f0b-a622-cf13c7d16864 instead of cscript slmgr.vbs /dti

SHimmer45 Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 have you got SRV resource record published in your DNS? if you havent i believe you will need to tell the client when the KMS host is. SLMGR /? should give the command. also if you have installed a product using a KMS code in some cases it will try and publish itself as a KMS host in DNS Firewall on the KMS host will also block requests. the Event viewer on the KMS host will also say if it is dealing with requests and from what machine. (under application/system iirc)

SLMGR.vbs /ato "activationID" For office 2010 you need a min of 5 activations to activate the registrations so the clients are registered.

somebloke Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Ah, ok, it doesn't think that it is the KMS server for Office 2010 then. When you look in DNS if you go to: Forward Lookup Zones_tcp You should see an entry like: _VLMCS and it should show your KMS server. There should only be one _VLMCS entry as well. Just have a quick look to see if that is how your DNS is set up. Cheers.

Is the server Server 2008 R2 Standard or Enterprise? When you installed the key as above you should have seen a message like: Microsoft ® Windows Script Host Version 5.8 Copyright © Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. Installed product key xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx successfully Then after that you needed to activate it using: cscript slmgr.vbs -ato bfe7a195-4f8f-4f0b-a622-cf13c7d16864 After that, I think there is nothing else to do apart from perhaps restart the service using: net stop sppsvc && net start sppsvc

It's a Server 2003 server where the KMS is installed. Key is now activated, I used the manual telephone option rather than online, but still not seeing the count information etc like you are.
