OPen Office, not auto openeing and/or changes PPTs

Anyone using OPen Office? We installed it onto some laptops as we had run out of MS Office Licences but now we have found some drawbacks when using online resources. ALthough it is set as the default programme for all XLS, PPT, DOC and their 2007/2010 counterparts if you try and open a resource from say primaryresources it won't open, you have to download it and open it from the laptop. This doesn't happen on thos machines using MS Office.

 

We have also noticed that if you download a PPT, Openoffice seems to move objects around on teh screen, sometimes making teh ppt unusable!

 

Any comments other than buy some Office Licences! (We are saving hard)
