Quick question:

 

Do I need a separate domain to run both Google Apps and Live@Edu on?

No - you can run one on a subdomain of your domain.

 

I have live@edu running as live.domain.com and Google Apps as just domain.com.

I had to add some extra stuff into the Google CP to forward unknown email accounts email to Microsoft's MX servers, in addition to the normal DNS stuff.

 

It was awhile ago when I set it up, so I can't remember exactly what I did.
