fronter students are able to activate dormant rooms

Hello,

 

This is my first post and unfortunately it is a negative issue with fronter VLE. There are many good points to fronter but I have found the support to be somewhat slow.

 

This issue is one of a few but is the most annoying as it prevents the easy management of fronter hand in rooms.

 

 

If you apply a template to a group of rooms (C11 Use template room) then all of those rooms that are created using your template can be activated by any student. Students have read access only and should not be able to activate these dormant rooms. We have ended up with quite a few unwanted activated rooms where the students have mistakenly opened the wrong room and have activated these rooms. Their name has been give as the owner.

 

This was reported last year and has still not been fixed.

 

If someone could assist it would be most appreciated.

thw way we got around it here was not to use the autogenerated rooms, they are all closed, and connot be activated by teachers, this way teachers can create their own room and use the groups which would of been the timetabled room.

 

Also, we have developed a room called the student launchpad, which opens up by default for all of our students instead of the Today page, it basically is organised in pages by year group, with internal links to the room that are needed/used, makes it easier for students to find them and not go into the wrong room.

 

I know this isn't a solution but a workaround, but it does work

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately it's not an option to stop using the imported rooms. We have experimented somewhat with other methods of using handins but students found ways to upload their work to the root directories. We use a links page for all handin rooms for several departments. Perhaps fronter may fix the problem in the near future.
